The Golf feels familiar almost at once, even to visitors driving on roads they have never seen. It is compact enough for Tirana’s side streets and tight parking, yet steady and grown-up at motorway speeds. Our five Golfs are all automatic: four Golf 7 1.6 TDI cars from 2014, each set up for four people, and a 2011 Golf 6 2.0 TDI with five seats. All of them take three suitcases. It suits couples, solo travellers and small families who want a car that simply gets on with the job.
Use it for a city-based stay with day trips: Krujë and its castle, the beach at Durrës, the lake at Shkodër or the old town of Berat. On the coast it makes just as much sense, since parking near the beach is scarce in summer. Pick one up at Tirana International Airport or have it delivered to your hotel, then book on WhatsApp.
